As we head into the colder months, it’s important to be aware of the dangers of antifreeze poisoning—a common, but deadly risk to pets. Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) has a sweet taste that can attract dogs and cats, but even a small amount can be fatal. 🐾💔
What are the signs of antifreeze poisoning?
• Vomiting
• Lethargy or weakness
• Increased thirst or urination
• Seizures or uncoordinated movement
• Rapid breathing or difficulty breathing
• Blood in urine
If you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze, act immediately—contact Happy Tails Vets. Time is crucial, and prompt treatment can save your pet’s life! 🏥🐶
Prevention Tips:
✔️ Store antifreeze securely – Keep antifreeze and other chemicals in sealed containers, out of reach of pets.
✔️ Clean up spills immediately – If you spill any antifreeze, be sure to clean it up right away with a pet-safe cleaner.
✔️ Use pet-safe antifreeze – Some antifreeze brands are made with propylene glycol, which is less toxic to animals. Consider making the switch!
